About Us

The Chaffey Joint Union High School District serves the communities of Ontario, Montclair, Rancho Cucamonga, and portions of Fontana, Upland, Chino, and Mount Baldy. With over 25,000 students, the District is the fourth largest high school district in California. It has eight comprehensive high schools, a continuation high school, an online high school, a community day school, an adult school, and alternative programs. The District offers a wide variety of instructional options that provide a quality education for each student, every day. The District's well-prepared, dedicated, and highly qualified teachers and support personnel are second to none.
The Chaffey Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees are steadfast in the belief that "Nothing is more important than student learning and their achievement."
Our daily purpose encompasses our commitment:
"To provide student learning, and ultimately their achievement, of the prescribed curriculum that takes place in the classroom under the direction of the teacher." The Chaffey District supports this daily act. We realize that our efforts uniquely influence the future of our community and of this nation, and we are passionate about doing whatever it takes to prepare students to be successful and contributing citizens of the 21st century.
The Chaffey District has provided a quality education for high school students in the area since 1911. As the District continues to grow and progress, we are poised to meet the challenge of providing the finest quality education possible for every student.

Principal's Message

Charlene Saenz, Principal
Dear Montclair Students and Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! Cavs, we have all unfortunately experienced times of uncertainty, but we must remain optimistic. I feel overjoyed to have the opportunity to safely come together once again and kick off a new school year! Although our new school year will be like nothing we could have ever imagined, we at Montclair High School are committed to maintaining a safe and orderly environment, to deliver quality instruction, and to provide students with opportunities to be involved on campus. With the fight we are all in against the COVID-19 virus, our school and district will be implementing safety procedures that will require all students and staff to participate in a daily wellness check before entering our campus which includes the checking of each person’s temperature, two health screening questions and the wearing of masks. All staff and students will also be required to display their school identification cards as they enter campus and throughout the school day.
In June, the District asked staff, parents, and students to complete an Opening of Schools survey Over 16,000 surveys were submitted, and the data shows that 87% of students, 81% of parents, and 76% of staff desire for students and staff to come back to campus in some manner. Based on the results of this survey, the District has developed a Hybrid Instructional Model/Schedule. This model is consistent with Assembly Bill 77 (AB 77), which asserts that “in-person instruction should be offered to the greatest extent possible, only allowing distance learning under two circumstances: (1) as a result of an order or guidance from a state or local public health officer or (2) for students who are medically fragile or would be put at risk by in-person instruction, or who are self-quarantining because of exposure to COVID-19”.
This Hybrid Instructional Model/Schedule will allow half of the student population to attend on their designated day, with a maximum of 18 students in a traditional class at a time. When students are not physically in class, they will utilize the Canvas Learning Management System as a hub for their learning and communication - safely from home. The school year will begin on Wednesday, August 5, 2020. If a student or parent is not comfortable returning to school on this schedule, they will have the option to continue with distance learning if they meet State/District (AB77) requirements. It is critical that all Montclair families complete the following Google form ( regarding their preferred learning model by, July 10th.
To maintain the safety of students, their families, and our MHS staff, the registration procedures for the upcoming 20-21 school year have changed. Students will be required to wear face coverings and maintain social distancing while attending our summer registration days. In order to minimize the number of people on campus, we are asking that only one parent/guardian (if needed) accompany the student attending on their designated registration day.
